Geraldine Chachere

Opelousas - Funeral services for Geraldine St. Cyr Cummings Chachere, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park. Deacon Sammy Diesi will officiate the services.

Geraldine was a native and longtime resident of Opelousas. She died on Sunday, May 14, 2017, at her daughter's residence in Lafayette surrounded by her loving family. She was an LPN for many years. She enjoyed spending time outside sitting on the porch, swinging, and playing with her dogs, Sophia and Cayenne. She also enjoyed cooking Sunday lunches for anyone and everyone in the black pot. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her children, Robert J. Cummings and wife, Carol of Las Vegas, NV; Cynthia Cummings Figueron of Lafayette; Melanie Cummings Breaux and husband, Charles of Grand Coteau; Joseph D. Cummings of Opelousas; and Danna Cummings of Opelousas; brother, Algie P. St. Cyr of Basile; 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Lelia St. Cyr; her first husband, J. P. Cummings; her second husband, Albert "Sam" Chachere; her brother, Harold D. St. Cyr; and her two sons-in-law, Darrel J. Figueron and Kenneth C. Bourque.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2017, from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. A Rosary service will be held on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. On Wednesday, visitation will continue from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.

Pallbearers will be Horace Joseph Lafleur, Clayton Claxton, Benny Rhodes, Jessica Thornton, Fred Durio, and Frank Dabney. Honorary pallbearers will be Shane Guilluman, Beau Richard, and David H. St. Cyr.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to the charity of your choice.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Heart of Hospice for their superb medical care which was given to Geraldine and their kindness which was shown to the family.
