George Watson

Opelousas - A funeral service will be held for George E. Watson, age 88, at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, September 9, 2016, in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas, LA. Reverend Benny Reppond will conduct the funeral service. Burial will take place at Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Watson, a resident of Opelousas, LA and native of Monroe, LA and Woodville, MS, died on Wednesday, September 7, 2016, at St. Landry Extended Care.

George served his country proudly as a United States Marine during WWII. He enjoyed squirrel hunting, fishing, playing tennis and watching old movies and Ole Miss football. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jamie Dean Savage Watson; his daughters, Anne Watson, Jamie Sue Watson Messina and husband, J. Rodney, his sons, David Leake Watson and wife, Pamela; Richard Watson and wife, Phyllis Broussard and his sister, Patricia "Patsy" Tolbert Spillman. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Jamie Ann Kitchin, Jerrod Messina, Janna Messina Kiefer, Ashley Dupre, Megan Dupre, Logan Dupre, Carter Watson, Morgan Watson, Reagan Watson, Mallory Watson, Blaise Watson and 5 great-grandchildren, Anne Wesley Kitchin, Jamie Vivien Kitchin, Laina Messina, Georgia Kiefer and Joseph Messina.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and R.T. Leake Watson and his brother, Judge Richard Thomas Watson.

Visitation will be held at the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Thursday, September 8, 2016, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The funeral home will reopen at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 9, 2016, until time of services.

Pallbearers will be Jack Kiefer, Logan Dupre, Jerrod Messina, Blake Leleux, Rodney Messina, Chad Cortez and Carter Watson.
