George "Sam" Edward Fruge’, Jr., age 71, was born on May 24, 1953, in Opelousas, Louisiana, and passed away peacefully at his residence in Washington, Louisiana, on April 4, 2025. A dedicated farmer by profession, George devoted his life to the land and the hard work that accompanied it.
Visitation for George "Sam" Edward Fruge’, Jr. will be held in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas on Thursday, April 10, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a rosary being recited at 6:00 p.m.
Beyond his professional endeavors, George was a man of deep familial affection. He cherished the moments spent with his loved ones, and his passion for life was reflected in his many hobbies and interests. A lover of the outdoors, he found joy in hunting, fishing, playing golf, and crawfishing, activities that allowed him to connect with nature and create lasting memories with family and friends.
George is survived by his loving mother, Betty Ann Fruge' of Washington, Louisiana, and is remembered fondly by his children, Nevada Lee Fruge' of Washington, Louisiana, and Sammi Renee' Schexnayder (Tommie) of Lakeland, Georgia. He leaves behind a legacy of love and support through his brothers, Houston Paul Fruge' (Patricia) of Washington, Louisiana, Charles Joseph Fruge' (Kathy) of Washington, Louisiana, and Carl James Fruge' (Dan) of Lafayette, Louisiana, as well as his sisters, Sandra Gail Deville (Donald) of Washington, Louisiana, and Rebecca Ann Morain of Washington, Louisiana. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Angel Renee' McNew (Austin) of Newport News, Virginia, and Michael Shayne Schexnayder of Lakeland, Georgia, who will carry his love and values as they grow.
George is preceded in death by his father, George Edward Fruge’, Sr.; his paternal grandparents, Lester and Bathile Fruge’; his maternal grandparents, Houston and Onezia Jones and his brother-in-law, Harris Morain.
As we remember George "Sam" Edward Fruge, Jr., we celebrate a life characterized by hard work, a love for the great outdoors, and an unwavering dedication to family. His spirit and the memories he has left behind will always be cherished by all who knew him.
