Opelousas - Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas for George Noel Chauvin. Visiting will begin at 10:00 a.m. until time of services. The Celebrant will be Reverend James Barron, a dear friend of George's for many years. Rite of Committal will take place at Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.
George, who was a native and resident of Opelousas, died of cancer on June 16, 2016 at the Carpenter House (a hospice hospital) in Lafayette.
George graduated from Opelousas Catholic School in 1979. After graduating from U.L., George, who was a passionate cook, attended the Culinary Institute of America in Poughkeepsie, New York. He graduated in 1982 and worked as a chef for several years; then as an associate manager for Piccadilly for 10 years.
Finally, he attended Our Lady of the Lake Nursing School and became a respiratory therapist. He had been working at St. Patrick's Hospital in Lake Charles, LA in the Intensive Care Unit for 12 years.
George loved entertaining his family and friends with "good food, good wine and great conversation." He had a deep abiding faith in God that nothing could shake, and a great sense of humor which added so much to all our family gatherings. No one loved Christmas any more than George. We even said his middle name should have been Christmas and then remembered that "Noel" is Christmas in French.
He will be sadly missed by his family and close friends.
He is survived by his mother, Geraldine Joubert Edrington; his sister and brother-in-law, Christine and Stanford Owen; his brothers and sister-in-law, Jay and Christy Chauvin and Dr. Edward Chauvin and his step-mother, Sylvia Chauvin. He is also survived by eight nieces and nephews and five great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry E. Chauvin and his grandparents, Edward E. and Annie Belle Richard Chauvin and George and Irma Ortego Joubert.
Pallbearers will be Jay Chauvin, Dr. Edward Chauvin, Dr. Stanford Owen, Robert Owen, Benjamin Chauvin and James Chauvin.
Family and friends are invited to sign and view the online guestbook at www.lafondardoin.com.
