Genevieve Knott

A Mass of Christian Burial for Genevieve Knott will be held on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at 12:30 p.m. at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church.  Rite of Committal will take place at St. Leo the Great Catholic Cemetery in Leonville, LA. The Very Reverend Monsignor Keith J. DeRouen will celebrate the Mass.

Genevieve Knott, 77, of Opelousas, died April 3, 2021 while preparing to celebrate Good Friday and Easter with her family.

Born December 9, 1943 to Thomas Clinton “Blanco” and Armide Arceneaux Stelly, Genevieve was raised in Opelousas and remained here all her life.

Genevieve was a daughter, sister, wife and mother. She dedicated her life to taking care of her parents and her husband’s parents; raising her children; and supporting her family and friends. She is famous for her infectious smile and contagious laugh. Anyone visiting Genevieve could always count on a cup of coffee, and cake, cookies, or ice cream. If you were lucky enough to be there when she was cooking, you never left hungry or empty handed. Genevieve loved to dance.

She is survived by her children, Tammy L. Knott Lt. Col (Ret. U.S. Army), Ricky and Tina Knott, Jeff and Nicole Knott Arena, and Brewster J. Knott, Jr; sisters Nora Guidry, Rose Mae Lanclos, and Judy Thibodeaux;  her grandchildren April Charles, Clint Knott, Leah Knott, Amanda Knott, and Ethan Arena; and great grandchildren Gabe Speyrer, Avery Speyrer, and Norah Thibodeaux.

Genevieve is preceded in death by her husband, Brewster J. Knott, Sr.; parents, Thomas Clinton Stelly and Armide Arceneaux Stelly; sisters Altha Richard, Florence Marks, and Mary Stout.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm and will reopen on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at 8:00 am. A rosary will be recited on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at 6:30 pm by Deacon Sammy Diesi.
