Genevieve Boykin

Opelousas Services for Genevieve Nezat Boykin, age 84, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 18, 2012, in the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Opelousas, La., followed by interment in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery. The Reverend Pete Smith will conduct the service.

Genevieve, a resident of Opelousas, La., died on Thursday, June 14, 2012, at Lafayette General Medical Center.

She was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was in charge of the Exxon Retirement Club, volunteered with the Pink Ladies Auxiliary at Doctors Hospital and was an escort counselor with Opelousas General Health System. Genevieve will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her son, John W. Boykin, Jr. and wife, Mignon, of Lafayette, La. and her daughter, Sharon K. Vercher of Opelousas, La. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Scott Vercher, Gabriel Boykin, Jessica Vercher Prejean, Brandon M. Boykin, Jordan M. Boykin and two greatgrandchildren, Emily Grace Vercher and Audrey Ann Prejean.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Boykin, Sr. and her parents, Easton and Jennie Roy Nezat a brother, George Sonnier and his wife, Hazel Sonnier.

Pallbearers will be John W. Boykin, Jr., Jordan Boykin, Brandon Boykin, Allen Glyn Sonnier, Scott Vercher and Chris Prejean.

Visiting hours will be observed in the LafondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas, beginning on Sunday, June 17, 2012, from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Monday until service time. A rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday by Monsignor Paul Metrejean.
