Gene Ray Matt

Opelousas - Visitation and funeral services for Gene Ray Matt will be held on Friday, November 29, 2019 from 9:00 AM until the rosary at 2:00 PM and followed by funeral service.  Deacon Dwayne Joubert will officiate the service.  A private burial will take place at St. Edward's Catholic Church Cemetery in Richard, Louisiana.

Mr. Matt, age 73, a resident of Dothan, Alabama, passed away on August 21, 2019 in Chipley, Florida.

Gene was born on March 15, 1946 in Lafayette, Louisiana to Arthur Burley "A.B." and Elvie Benoit Matt.  He lived in Alabama for 22 years.  He was a member of the Dothan Masonic Lodge #466 and a Master Mason.  He earned his 32nd Degree Scottish Rite and was an active Shriner of the Dothan Alabama Chapter.  He lived by this saying, "I think earned or achieved is how this should begin."  He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his sisters, Gloria Faye McGinn (Jim) of Church Point, LA, Leona M Dohmann of Opelousas, LA; his brother, Kenneth Wayne Matt of Opelousas, LA and ten nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kate C. Sellers and his parents, A.B. and Elvie Matt.
