A Mass of Christian Burial for Gene Edgar Prudhomme, age 80, will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, March 26, 2012, in the St. Bridget Catholic Church in Lawtell, La., followed by entombment in the church mausoleum. The Reverend Austin Leger will celebrate the Mass.
Mr. Prudhomme, a native and resident of Lawtell, La., died on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at his residence.
Friends and family will remember Gene at his grocery store for over 50 years, the Lawtell Community Grocery, tending to the needs of his community. He was involved with many community organizations including the Knights of Columbus, Woodmen of the World, Opelousas Elks Lodge, the Lawtell Volunteer Fire Department, as a founder and past president of the Lawtell Little League, former board member of Amy Bradford Ware High School, former St. Landry Parish Police Juror, a member of the Little Alabama Hunting Club and he also served his country in the United States Air Force. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his son, Gary Gene Prudhomme and wife Jeanne daughters, Paula Lejeune and husband Norris, Carla Prudhomme Barras, and Alidia Fontenot and husband Troy a brother, Terry Prudhomme and wife Vera and 13 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Geneva Daigle Prudhomme parents, Edgar and Ella Pitre Prudhomme brothers, Aubrey and Herbert Prudhomme sisters, Lou Ira Arceneaux, Romaine Venable and Nelma Fontenot and his soninlaw, John E. Barras.
Visiting hours will be observed in the LafondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas, beginning on Sunday, March 25, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and will reopen on Monday at 8:00 a.m. until service time. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday by Reverend Austin Leger.
