Gene Leger

Krotz Springs - Funeral services will be held for Gene Edgar Leger on Thursday, May 28, 2020 at 1:30 PM in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home Chapel in Krotz Springs.  Reverend Fr. Michael DeBlanc will conduct the service.  Burial will follow in the First Pentecostal Church of Bayou Rouge Cemetery.   Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2020, in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Krotz Springs from 10:00 AM until time of services at 1:30 PM.

Mr. Leger was a native of Lafayette, a longtime resident of Krotz Springs, and a current resident of Opelousas.  He passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at Senior Village Nursing Home in Opelousas at the age of 79.

Gene was a carpenter for many years until his retirement in 1997.  He was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local Union 1098 for many years.  He was an active outdoorsman and an avid deer hunter.  He also loved fishing, four-wheeler riding and spending time at his camp where he had numerous suppers with family and friends.  Gene loved his family very much and enjoyed traveling with his children and his wife on their yearly vacations.  He cherished his quality time with his grandchildren and never missed out on a chance to take pictures and videos of them.  He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Windolin Valin Leger of Opelousas; his son, Thomas "Tommy" Gene Leger and wife, Patricia of Krotz Springs; his daughter, Tammy Leger Tate and husband, Kevin of Sunset and his sister, Gloria Faye Morrow and husband, Sam of Krotz Springs.  He is also survived by four grandchildren, Amanda Leger Barker (Darrel), Jenna Leger, Ashlynn Tate, Benjamin Tate and six great-grandchildren, Tracy Barker, Blake Barker, Andrew Barker, Tylor Swarner, Devon Swarner and Peyton Patterson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Felton Leger and Effie Mae Bertrand Leger.
