Folin Fontenot

Opelousas A Mass of Christian Burial for Folin Folan Fontenot, age 85, will be held on Thursday, February 24, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. in the Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church of Opelousas, La., followed by interment in the St. Bridget Church Cemetery in Lawtell, La. Reverend Paul Bienvenu will conduct the services.

Mr. Fontenot, a resident of Opelousas, La., passed away on Monday, February 21, 2011 at St. Landry Extended Care.

Folin was a life member of the V.F.W., a member of Life Champions and he also was an usher at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church for over 20 years. Folin served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army and received a diploma from the country of France for his participation in Normandy from 19441945. He was also employed at Meches Meat Market as Market Manager for over 26 years.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Moneda Lafleur Fontenot of Opelousas, La. his son, Barney Jude Fontenot and wife, Laleh, of San Antonio, Texas 2 grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Fontenot Rhodes and husband, Allan, of San Antonio, Texas Ben Peyton Fontenot of San Antonio, Texas and one greatgrandchild, Brooklyn Rhodes.

He was preceded in death by his parents, J.B. Julie Soileau Fontenot his brothers, Lobbie Fontenot, Ronald Fontenot, Clester McDaniel and his sisters, Armoce Manuel and Regina Pitre.

Pallbearers will be Harold Castille, Lester Frame, Gerald Chachere, Wade Gautreaux, Burke Pitre, Calvin Lafleur, Charles Richard and Mike Richard.

Visiting hours will be observed in the LafondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday until time of service. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
