Opelousas - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Mr. Floyd Luke Darby at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, March 22, 2021, at St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas. Msgr. Russell Harrington will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal and burial will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery. Readers will be Cynthia Ortego and Jill Wilson.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 22, 2021, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas. A Rosary will be prayed at 12:30 p.m. in the funeral home and led by Deacon Dwayne Joubert.
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Mr. Floyd Luke Darby, age 90, on Friday, March 19, 2021, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Floyd was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp. and served his country proudly during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, hunting, fishing for Sac-a-Lait and spending time at his camp. Floyd had an interest in politics and loved cooking for his family and friends being known as the "Gumbo King". Floyd was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his sons, Jerry Darby and wife, Linda of Eunice; and Mitch Darby and wife, Jennifer of Lafayette; his daughter, Cynthia Ortego and husband, Gary of Prairieville; his brother, Felix Darby, Jr. and wife, Marion of Opelousas; and his sister, Lois Darby Thibodeaux of Cankton. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Jill R. Wilson and husband, John; Travis C. Ortego and wife, Brandy; Katie L. Ortego, Nicholas John Darby, and Lane Mitchell Darby; and six great-grandchildren, Ethan Drake Wilson, Samantha Wilson, Skylar Grace Ortego, Cameron Mitchell Ortego, Kallie Comardelle and Chase Comardelle.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Daire Darby; his parents, Felix Darby, Sr. and Selima Comeaux Darby; his daughter, Susan "Sue" Darby; his son, Floyd Luke Darby, Jr.; his granddaughter, Amie Ortego; his grandson, Michael Luke "Boulon" Darby; his brother, Earl "E.J." Darby; and his brother-in-law, Ashton Thibodeaux.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Darby, Mitch Darby, Nicholas Darby, Lane Darby, Felix Darby, Jr., Gary Ortego, Travis Ortego and Kenneth Johnson.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of St. Landry Home Care, the staff of Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care, Christy Smith (nurse), Dr. Sylvester Murphy (pastor - Louisiana Hospice & Palliative Care) and his caregivers, Linda Toten, Anita Guidroz and Stacy LaCombe.
