Opelousas, LA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Eula M. Savoie, 83, will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in the Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church followed by interment in the Myrtle Grove Cemetery in Opelousas, LA. The very Reverend Monsignor Louis Melancon will officiate the services.
Ms. Eula M. Savoie died on Wednesday, January 6, 2010, at Opelousas General Hospital in Opelousas.
Ms. Eula Savoie, was a Cajun foods legend, president and chief executive officer of Savoies Sausage and Food Products, Inc. She enjoyed spending her time with her customers, employees and culinary professionals in her office in the corner of her country store on the old Port Barre Highway, from which she built her Cajun foods empire. She was a powerful advocate and a defender of Cajun traditions, particularly culinary traditions.
Survivors include her two children Ronnie Savoie and Donna S. Lafleur of Opelousas her grandson, Matt Lafleur and her granddaughters, Morgan Talevich and husband, Damian and McKenzie Lafleur of Opelousas.
She was preceded in death by a son, Edward Savoie her father, Ollie Morris her mother, Ezola Morris a brother, Lee Morris and her former husband, Thomas Savoie.
The family requested visiting hours be observed in the LafondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Friday, January 8, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and will reopen at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2010 until time of service. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
Pallbearers will be Freddie Lafleur, Timmy Lejeune, Gerald Boullion, Dale Robin, Fred Swanson and Wally Fields.
