Ernest Duplechin

Opelousas - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Ernest Duplechin, age 79, at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas, LA. Monsignor Keith DeRouen will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal will take place at Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Duplechin, a resident of Opelousas, LA, died on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at Opelousas General Health System.

Ernest loved being with family and friends. He never met a stranger and always had a good conversation about politics. He also enjoyed Sunday afternoon dominos and card games with his wife, Janel and his best friends, Crow and Ellen Soileau and Terry and Vee Guidry.

He was the owner of several race horses and loved going to the track to see them race. He was a member of the Louisiana Quarter Horse Association and previous owner of the Pik-N-Sak Grocery Store. He retired with the St. Landry Parish School Board as a bus driver. He was a parishioner of Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church where he was an usher for many years. Ernest will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Janel Bourque Duplechin; his son, Dino Duplechin and wife, Beth; his sisters, Girlie Fontenot and Vernice Gautreaux; his grandchildren, Hailey, Patrick and Brandy Duplechin and his great-grandchildren, Hanna and Patrick Duplechin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vellour and Alida Duplechin; his son, Keith Duplechin; his daughter, Tanner Duplechin; his sisters, Leonie Gould Lalonde, Mary Ann Duplechin and his brothers, Thomas and Vernon Duplechin.

Visitation will be held at the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. A rosary will be prayed by Deacon Sammy Diesi at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The funeral home will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday until time of services.

The family would like to thank his friends and caregivers who assisted at the time of his illness.
