Opelousas - Funeral services will be held for Emily Roberie Cortez at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 18, 2015, in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas. Deacon Chuck Ortego will conduct the funeral service. Interment will be held at Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Cortez, age 86, a native of Grand Praire, LA and resident of Opelousas, LA, died on Saturday, May 16, 2015, at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Ville Platte, LA.

Emily enjoyed crocheting, gardening and working in her yard. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and enjoyed having coffee with her neighbors. Emily will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her.

We were so blessed to have you for our mother. There are so many wonderful memories of you that will carry us through our darkest days. She has fulfilled her duty on earth as a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Thank you mother, we love you and we will miss your terribly. May you rest in peace.

She is survived by her son, Brent Cortez and wife, Sharon, of Opelousas, LA; her daughters, Charmaine Stanford and husband, Michael, of Opelousas, LA; Stephanie Hunter and husband, William "Bill", of Pensacola, FL and her sister, Ruby Vidrine of Ville Platte, LA. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Paul B. Cortez, Jr., Candice Cortez, Amy Cortez, Scott Stanford, Ryan Stanford, Amber R. Stanford, Elliot Hunter, Logan Hunter and her great-grandchildren, Lane Stanford, MacKenzie Stanford, Addelyn Savoy, Ryan P. Stanford, Paul B. Cortez III, Betty A. Cortez, Sierra D. Cortez, Shianne A. Cortez, Damian Aucoin, Brenden Cortez, Gavin Cortez and Cameron Fontenot.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilford J. Cortez; her parents, Jules and Amelie Fontenot Roberie; her brothers, Elmo Roberie, Hewitt Roberie, Eli Roberie, Emery Roberie, Pershing Roberie, Howard Roberie and her sisters, Yvonne Fontenot and A. Elizabeth LeBlanc.

Visitation will be held at the LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Sunday, May 17, 2015, from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Monday until time of service. A rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday.
