Elvin Richard, Sr.

Opelousas - Funeral services for Elvin Pooney Richard, Sr. will be held at the Opelousas Bible Church in Opelousas at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2009 followed by interment in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery in Opelousas, La. The services will be conducted by the Rev. Ted Hall.

Mr. Richard, 88, a resident of Opelousas, died on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at 6:02 a.m.

He owned and operated Richards Appliance Service. He was also a life member of V.F.W. Post 11160 in Clarksville, Tennessee and served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Mr. Richard was also an avid hunter and fisherman. He will be missed by his friends and family.

He is survived by his sons, Elvin Joseph Inky Richard, Jr. and wife, Barbara, of Port Barre, La.; William Saul Richard and wife, Denise, of Opelousas, La.; Charles Preston Richard and wife, Tammy, of Opelousas, La.; John Ray Richard and wife, Patricia, of Clarksville, Tennessee; his daughters, Leona Marie Burleson and husband, George, of Kiln, Mississippi; Rebecca Jane Duewerth and husband, Robert, of Plainfield, Illinois; Betty Ann Dyson and husband, Ricky, of Crosby, Texas; Patricia Diane Bernard and husband, Patrick, of Pearland, Texas; his brother, Goldman Nellie Richard of Baker, La. and his sister, Bernice Kerry of Melville, La. He is also survived by 26 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Helen LaVerne Folds Richard; his first wife, Anne Lee Gornor Richard; his parents, Saul and Lillie Mae Vidrine Richard; his daughter, Mary Faith Richard; his sisters, Willie Mae Kerry and Olivia Perry and his brothers, Levi Richard and Gilbert Richard.

Pallbearers will be: Jeff Dyson, Derrick Dyson, Preston Richard, Terry Leger, Daniel Richard and Roger Burleson. Honorary pallbearer will be Kaden Stelly.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, November 6, 2009 from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and will reopen on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 8:00 a.m. until the time of service.
