Elsie Marks Guidry was born on April 25, 1930, in Waxia, Louisiana. She peacefully departed this life on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at her residence in Church Point, Louisiana. A beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Elsie's warmth and love touched the lives of all who knew her.
Funeral services for Elsie Marks Guidry will be held on Monday, January 27, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas. Father Henry Antony will officiate the service. Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Mausoleum in Port Barre, Louisiana.
Visitation will begin on Sunday, January 26, 2025, in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas beginning at 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Sunday evening by Deacon Jerome Collins. The funeral home will reopen on Monday from 8:00 a.m. until the time of services at 10:00 a.m.
Pallbearers will be Jake Roberie, Jesse Roberie, Chris Guidry, Kyle Guidry, Nicholas Guidry and Jason Guidry. The honorary pallbearer will be Jacob Guidry.
She is survived by her sons, Jerry Guidry (Sandra) of Sunset, Louisiana; Bradley Guidry (Tammy) of Arnaudville, Louisiana; and Kim Guidry (Lora) of Krotz Springs, Louisiana; her daughters, Diane Higginbotham of Church Point, Louisiana, and Janice Roberie (Jeff) of Washington, Louisiana and her sister, Rita Arnaud, of Morgan City, Louisiana. Her spirit lives on in her fourteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren, with three more great-grandchildren on the way, all of whom she adored deeply.
Elsie was known for her caring nature; she was a source of strength and compassion. Her personality reflected her dedication to her loved ones as she always prioritized the happiness and well-being of her family. Elsie found joy in many hobbies, including crocheting, engaging in puzzle books, and cooking and baking for her family. These activities not only brought her happiness but also created countless memories shared around the dinner table, showcasing her love through culinary delights.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Howard J. Guidry; her parents, Edgar J. Marks, Sr. and Clemence Robin Marks; her daughters, Linda Marie Guidry and Agnes Marie Guidry; her two brothers, Joseph Marks and Edgar Marks, Jr., and six sisters, Hilda LeBlanc, Eleanor Bernard, Lelia Faul, Lillian Dupre, Eva Lalonde, and Mildred Chustz and her son-in-law, Russell Higginbotham.
We celebrate a life beautifully lived—a life of love, creativity, and unwavering family devotion. Her memory will be held close in our hearts, illuminated by the love she shared so abundantly with all.
