Eloise Stevens-Arceneaux, born Eloise Gregory, Natchez, Mississippi October 12, 1929 passed away in the early morning hours on Thursday, September 18, 2008 at Lafayette General Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents: Herman Buster Gregory and Emma Pearson Gregory, and her brother: Herman Buddy Gregory. Also, one grandson: David Stevens and 2 great-grandchildren; Timothy Paul Ortego and Daniel Oscar Ortego.
Funeral services for Eloise Arceneaux will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2008 at 10:00AM in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home Chapel, with the interment in Bellevue Memorial Park.
She is survived by her younger brother: Wayne Milton Gregory and his wife, Jeannie Fontenot- Gregory, of Pine Prairie, La. Another sister-in-law: Frances Kitchen-Gregory of Meridian, Ms. along with 5 nieces and 2 nephews. Ms. Eloise is also survived by all 7 of her children and their spouses: Gwyn Stevens-Leger and her husband, Lenray James Leger of Carencro; Eloise Kathy Stevens-Boudreaux and her husband Robert Earl Boudreaux of Opelousas; Elwood C. Stevens, Jr. and his wife, Frances Conrad-Stevens of Morgan City; Mary Lee Stevens-Ortego and her husband Douglas P. Ortego of Ponchatoula; Kenneth Gregory Stevens and his wife, Vickie Robert-Stevens of Lafayette; Irona Squeaky Stevens-Lege and her husband Jerry W. Lege of Pecan Island and Leslie Arceneaux-Guidry and her husband Kim Guidry of Spokane, Washington, as well as, 16 grandchildren: Gretchen and husband David Donham, Seth and wife Kristie Leger, Scott and wife Kim Leger, Bridget and husband Jason Vidrine, Nichole and husband John Perry, Danielle , Abigail, and Michelle Conrad, Farrell Douglas and wife Adele Ortego, Phillip and wife Leslie Ortego, Tana and husband Scott Pittman, Steven Lege, Jerry Lege Jr. and wife Monique, Jason, Shelby and Jacob Guidry and 18 great grandchildren Nadia, Dawson, Baylor, Alainie, Cameron, Kathryn, Emma, Gregory, Madison, Christian, Peyton, Seth, Jenna, Nathan, Zoe, Titus, Lance, Logan and two more on the way.
Ms. Eloise was an LPN who resided on Bertheaud Ave in Opelousas for over 50 years. She dearly loved and appreciated all of her neighbors and friends on Bertheaud Ave; especially: Charlie and Gladys Dore, Russell and Lou Reed, Allen and Dorothy Quebedeaux, Dudley and Alice Blanchard, Bobby and Adelaide Dupre, the Quirks, Cummings, Sandoz, Martinez, Edwards, Hunts and the entire South City Park circle of families who always had an open door, an extra spot at the table and a swift ride home. She always spoke with thanks and admiration for all those dedicated volunteers and workers who made South City Park the center of our very own little universe in Opelousas; like Della Mae and Percy Durio, Ms. Perry at the Civic Center, Sam Chachere at the Skating Rink, Coaches John Bradley, David Moore, Dick Talbot, Joe Tuminello, Dale Peffercorn, Ann Hollier and the many parents who were always there to help and to whom she entrusted the safety and well being of her children and cherished their constant nurturing, guidance and support.
P Ms. Eloise was an office nurse for Drs. Ted Kretchmer OBGYN and Lloyd Boulet GP in Opelousas for many years. In recent years, she was a resident at Senior Village in Opelousas, Morgan City Health Care Center in Morgan City and Lafayette Care Center in Lafayettest
