Opelousas - It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Elmie Thibodeaux Fontenot announces her passing on Sunday, December 17, 2017 at Senior Village Nursing Home in Opelousas surrounded by loved ones. Elmie was 88 when she left this world to join her Lord and Savior.
Elmie was born to Israel and Mercedes Courville on November 26, 1929 in Sunset, Louisiana. On June 1, 1946 she married Walter Thibodeaux. They were blessed with four children which they raised in the Catholic faith. Elmie enjoyed listening to French music and never turned down the opportunity to dance. She had a lifelong ritual of praying the rosary and attending mass.
Elmie will be greatly missed by her four children Wilda Deville and husband Vinice of Ville Platte, Wilson Thibodeaux and wife Bonnie of Church Point, Bert Herbison and husband Joey of Cleveland, Mississippi, and Sandy Richard and husband Michael of North Little Rock, Arkansas. She was further blessed with 10 grandchildren: Angela and Stephanie Deville, Shannon and Walter Thibodeaux, Charlotte Castille, Spring Bowlin, Billy and Adam Herbison, Ryan Richard, and Stacey Pugh, step grandchild Shawn Everett, 10 great grandchildren, two step great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. Also left behind to cherish her memory are her siblings Lydia Credeur, Joyce Burton, Scurdy Courville, Leonard Courville, and Marie Lou Williams.
She now rests in Heaven with her parents, her husbands Walter Thibodeaux, Ignace Daigle, Wyble Diaville, Alphonse Leger, and Wilson Fontenot, and her siblings Jeston Courville, Eli Courville, and Nita Leger.
At the request of the family, a visitation will be held at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in the Skip Montet Chapel in Opelousas on Monday, December 18, 2017 from 3:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. and it will resume on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 from 8:00 a.m. until the time of service. A rosary will be prayed in her honor on Monday Evening at 6:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Landry Catholic Church. Father Jim James Brady will officiate the Mass. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the St. Bridgette Catholic Church Cemetery.
