It is with deep sorrow we regretfully announce the passing of Ellen Ruth Stagg on Monday, October 3, 2022, at the age of 68, at the Calcutta House in Lafayette.
Ellen worked for over 40 years as a registered nurse of which 25 of those years were spent as a school nurse for the St. Landry Parish School System. Her obvious love for children gave her the title of being an amazing aunt, whom her nieces and nephews could always count on to play games. Even though Ellen never had children of her own, she was a godmother to 4 and was thought of like a mother to her nieces and nephews. Ellen enjoyed cheering for the Saints and LSU football teams. She was an adventurous person, and she truly had a passion for traveling. Whether it was seeing the sights abroad or stateside, she just enjoyed all that life had to offer. Being a woman of faith kept her grounded and reminded her of what is to come after this life. She taught catechism for over 25 years at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, where she also was a parishioner. Ellen was a loving and kind person, who will be deeply missed by her family and those who knew her.
Ellen is survived by her brothers, Paul Wayne Stagg, William W. Stagg (Sheila) and Frank R. Stagg (Rebecca); sister, Alice Stagg Sheffield (Patrick); uncle, William R. Robert; nieces, Lorie Stagg Jacobs (Rick), Marie Stagg Gould (Ken), Megan Stagg Overton (Hatcher), Marie Louise Stagg and Kaitlyn Sheffield Ribarin (Malcolm); nephews, Philip Stagg (Camille) and Frank Sill R. Stagg (Jill); numerous great-nieces and nephews; and her beloved poodle, Paddy.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Paul Curtis Stagg and Clara Alice Robert Stagg; sister-in-law, Carolyn Parker Stagg; and nephew, David Brett Stagg.
