Edvin Matt

Funeral services for Mr. Edvin Wash Matt, will be on Monday, November 5, 2007 at 10:00AM at St. Bridgets Catholic Church in Lawtell with the interment in the church cemetery. The Rev. Daniel Picard will conduct the services.

Mr. Matt, age 90, was a resident of Lawtell, died on Friday, November 2nd,2007 at Opelousas General Health System. He was a machinist and was owner and operator of Matt Saw Mill and Matts Museum in Lawtell. He was also and avid antique collector for over 62 years. While he collected a variety of items, his passion was Civil War relics. During the time he operated the sawmill, the only type of wood harvested and cut was rough cypress.

He is survived by 2 sisters; Marie Duplechain of Gonzales and Amy Marks of Opelousas. Mr. Matt was preceded in death by his parents; Terville and Theophine Matt, his brothers; Emile Kim, Eddie and Olide Matt, his sisters; Ada Bourgeois, Miss Ella Matt and Mrs. Amelia Matt, brothers; Ben Matt and Araste Matt.

The family has requested that visitation will be observed at Lafond Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas on Sunday, November 4th from 3:00PM to 9:00PM and will continue on Monday from 8:00AM until the time of service. A rosary will be recited at 7:30PM on Sunday.

Pallbearers will be Malcolm Matt, Miles Matt, Craig Matt, David Matt, Mike Manuel and Shane Matt. Honorary pallbearers will be Martin Bourgeois, Scott Matt and Gary Vidrine.
