Grand Coteau A Mass of Christian Burial for Easton Poncho Darby, Jr., age 74, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20, 2012, in the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Grand Coteau, La., followed by interment in the church cemetery. Father James Lambert, S.J. will conduct the Mass of Christian Burial.
Mr. Darby, a resident of Sunset, La., died on Monday, June 18, 2012, at his residence.
Easton was a former boxer and golden gloves champion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking. He loved his family but especially loved his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Norma Lee Darby, of Sunset, La. his sons, Mike Darby and wife, Rhonda, of Sunset, La. and Brian Darby and wife, Rose, of Church Point, La. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Christopher Darby, Ryan Darby, Phillip Darby, Olivia Darby, Ashley Darby and seven greatgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Easton Joseph Darby and Gladys Comeaux Darby his son, Danny Dean Darby his brother, Urrey Darby, his sister, Vernon Lou Darby and his granddaughter, Christy Matthews.
Visiting hours will be observed in the LafondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas, beginning on Tuesday, June 19, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. open all night until service time at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
