Grayson, La. Funeral services for Earline Clause Buckley, age 67, will be held on Monday, October 19, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Charles Borremeo in Grand Coteau, followed by interment in Welcome Home Cemetery in Grayson, La. Father James Lambert will conduct the services.
Born in Napoleonville, Louisiana, Earline spent her lifetime devoted to foreign language and instruction at the secondary and university levels across the United States. Earline achieved numerous awards as a student, an educator and community leader. Specifically, Whos Whos in American Colleges and Universities, selected to Phi Kappa Phi, Secondary Teacher of the Year of Lafayette Parish, Teacher of the Year at Acadiana High School, Louisiana Delegate to the 6th and 9th Annual NABE Conferences, Member of CoDeSpan and CODOFIL and translator interpreter for the National Championship Louisiana Junior Olympic Basketball Team. Earline was an editor and lecturer for numerous professional publications and programs, including, LaTESOL News, Bilingual News and Louisiana Public Broadcastings Cultural Development Workshops Series.
P After graduating Valedictorian from Nichols State University in 1964, Earline attended Rice University in Houston and the Instituto Politenico, in Mexico City where she earned her Masters Degree in Spanish Culture and civilization in 1967. From 1967 to 1968 Earline taught at the secondary level at Morgan City High School, St. Bernard High School and Thibodaux High School. In 1968 Earline was the organizer and instructor of the first ESL Classes in Florida for the thousands of Cuban refugees that fled there in the 1960s. In 1972, Earline attended the Universite Catholique de lOuest in Angers, France where she earned a Masters Degree in French Language, Pedagogy, Culture and Civilization. She then joined the faculty at the University of Southwestern Louisiana in the Foreign Languages Department, while there she then earned another Masters Degree in FrenchSpanish education. From 1975 to 1983 Earline was instrumental in establishing numerous bilingual and ESL programs and grants throughout Louisiana and south central United States as a Teacher Trainer and Materials Specialist with the Title VII Bilingual Education Service Center at USL. From 1984 to 1990 Earline taught in various local high schools as a teacher of French, Spanish, English and ESL. In 1987 Earline was appointed by Governor Edwards to the Council for the Development of Spanish in Louisiana where she served until 1989. In 1990 to 1992 she served as administrator for ESOL and Bilingual Education Title VII and Title IV for the Louisiana Dept. of Education at the request of Governor Buddy Roemer.SPAN stylemso-spaceru
