Opelousas - Douglas “Doug” L. Amy, age 82, passed away on October 9, 2024, at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center. Born on March 18, 1942, in Opelousas, Louisiana, Doug lived a life filled with love, commitment, and service.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas, La. Brother Rusty Hall will conduct the service.
A visitation will be held at LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Saturday, October 12, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until service time at 3:00 p.m.
As a veteran of the United States Air Force, Doug proudly served his country, demonstrating dedication and integrity that he carried into his professional career as a safety engineer. His work was characterized by his commitment to ensuring the well-being of others.
Doug was known for his remarkable love as a husband, father, brother, and grandfather. He cherished the moments spent with his family, creating lasting memories while enjoying the great outdoors through activities like hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Jamaine F. Amy; his three sons, Mark D. Amy and his wife Annette, Brett R. Amy and his wife Jody, and Jean Paul "JP" Amy and his wife Kristine. Doug also leaves behind his brothers, Wayne Amy and his wife Cheri, Alan Amy and his wife Gail, and Kyle Amy, along with his sister, Cathy Amy. His legacy will continue through his grandson, Braxton Amy, who was the light of his eyes.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Amy and Zula Moreau Amy; his brother, Robert "Bobby" Amy; and first wife and the mother of his children, Lonna Lester Amy.
Doug's gentle spirit and profound impact will be lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege to know him. His life was marked by a depth of love and passion for those close to him, and he leaves behind a legacy of kindness that will resonate in the hearts of his family and friends for years to come.
