Doris Mccardell

Opelousas - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Doris Bercier McCardell at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 13, 2015, in the St. Landry Catholic Church. Reverend James Brady and Monsignor Louis Melancon will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal will be held at Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. McCardell, age 93, a resident of Opelousas, LA, died on Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at her residence.

Doris graduated from AIC and went on to become a Registered Nurse. She worked as a Public Health Nurse and retired as a supervisor. She enjoyed playing bridge and traveling on bus tours with friends. She was known as "Ma Ma Dee" to her grandchildren. She also enjoyed spending time and cooking with her family. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her sister, Jeannie Mayer Deshotels (Don) of Opelousas, LA; her children, Sylvia Controy of Lafayette, LA; Frank "Chip" McCardell, Jr. of Lafayette, LA; Sharon Fontenot (Carl) of Opelousas, LA and Tom McCardell (Donna) of Lafayette, LA. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one niece and nephew.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank K. McCardell, Sr.; her father, A.J. "Tony" Bercier; her mother, Aline Bercier Ware; her brothers, Hardy Bercier, A.J. Bercier, Jr. and her daughter, Cynthia M. Leger.

The family would like to thank her caregivers, Mary Thompson, Paula, Annette and Laurie.
Pallbearers will be her sons and grandsons.

Visitation will be held at the LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Thursday, March 12, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and will reopen on Friday at 8:00 a.m. until time of service. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
