Donald Mckinney

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Donald James McKinney at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 22, 2022, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Grand Coteau.  Father Mark Kramer will celebrate the Mass.  Rite of Committal and internment will follow in the St. Charles Borromeo Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 22, 2022, from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas.  A Rosary will be prayed at 12:30 p.m.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donald James McKinney, age 79, on Thursday, March 14, 2022, surrounded by his family in Opelousas.

Donald was a loving husband, father and friend. He was always helping friends and family with projects. He was a master craftsman, with a “do-it-yourself” motto. When he wasn’t helping others, he enjoyed shooting and was an excellent marksman. Donald also loved “Grandma’s” baking. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Bernice Shirley McKinney of Sunset, LA.; his sons, Robert William McKinney and wife, Karen of Washington, LA., Patrick William McKinney and wife Jennifer of Luling, LA. and David William McKinney and fiance Gina Mull of Mukwonago, WI.; his brother, George Leroy McKinney of Marianna, FL.; 2 grandchildren, Anna McKinney and Ashlyn McKinney; and a host of other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Doris McKinney; brothers, Wayne Verl McKinney, Jr., William “Bill” Ralph McKinney, Richard Duane “Dunk” McKinney and Jack Edward McKinney.

Pallbearers will be Robert McKinney, Patrick McKinney, David McKinney and Chad Abell.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jennifer McKinney, Karen McKinney and Gina Mull.
