Denise Lena Francois Maury Watts

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Denise Lena Francois Maury Watts will be held on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas, La.  Rite of Committal will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park.  The Very Reverend Monsignor Keith J. DeRouen will celebrate the Mass.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Denise Lena Francois Maury Watts, age 94, on Thursday, July 28, 2022, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Denise was known as “The Lady from France”.  She enjoyed international tea parties with the Garden Club.  She loved sewing, shopping, and spending time with her family and friends.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her son, Randy Charles Watts and wife, Karla Prather Watts, of Gonzales, La.; her daughters, Marie France Watts Ortego, and husband, Carol, of Gulf Port, Mississippi and Pam Watts of Swayze Lake, La. and her sister, Simone Texte of France.  She is also survived by four grandchildren, Yvette Ortego and partner, Penny Houillon, of Gulf Port, Mississippi, Tara Higginbotham of Washington, La., Jamie Watts of Gonzales, La., Kristen Watts Day and husband, Bradly, of Gonzales, La. and one great-grandchild, Charlie Day.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James “Jimmie” Watts and her parents, Charles Emile Hubert Maury, and Eda Marie Catherine Pellini Maury.
