A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, October 27, 2017 for Deacon (Dr.) Eugene Francis Brady at St. George Catholic Church in Baton Rouge. Reverend Edward Brady will be the main celebrant and Reverend James Brady will be the main concelebrant. Rite of Committal and Burial will follow on Monday, November 6, 2017 at Holy Cross Cemetery in Yeadon, Pennsylvania.
Deacon Brady, age 90 and a resident of Baton Rouge, LA passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 22, 2017.
He was retired from Ingalls Shipyard. Deacon Brady was a graduate of the Merchant Marine Academy, Drexel University and the University of Pittsburgh, where he received his Ph.D in Engineering. While residing in the Diocese of Biloxi, Bishop Howze awarded him a medal for Outstanding Catholic Layman. When he retired to Baton Rouge, he began studies to become a Deacon and was ordained by Bishop Robert Muench in 2002. He was assigned to the Nursing Home Ministry, where he served until his second retirement in 2013.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Joan Cullen Brady; sons, Father Edward Brady, Diocese of Philadelphia, PA, Father James Brady, Diocese of Lafayette, LA and John Brady and his wife, Debbie of Orlando, FL; daughters, Julia Tullos of Baton Rouge, Joan Love and her husband, Scott of Baton Rouge, Helen Leist and her husband, Mike of Fredericksburg, VA and Kathy Balhoff and her husband, Dan of Baton Rouge; grandchildren, Clifford, Bob and Dave Erickson; Scott, John, Julia, Michael and Mary Love; Jim, Julianne and Joan Leist; Christopher, Jacob, Matthew and Caleb Brady; and Catherine, Joey, Caroline and Paul Balhoff; great-grandchild, Bridgette Erickson; brothers-in-law, Nelson Johnson and Connie McCrea.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Helen Dyer Brady; son, Eugene Brady, Jr.; brother, Jack Brady; sisters, Helen Fennen, Mary Jane Johnson and Patricia McCrea; brother-in-law, Joe Fennen and sister-in-law, Midge Brady.
Visitation will be held at St. George Catholic Church (7808 St. George Dr. Baton Rouge, Louisiana) from 11:30 until the time of Mass at 12:30 on Friday, October 27, 2017.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice of Baton Rouge and Sunrise Senior Living (Siegen) for their compassion during Deacon Brady's time of need.
Pallbearers will be David Erickson, Scott Love, James Leist, Joseph Balhoff, Paul Balhoff and Caleb Brady.
