A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Cynthia McCardell Leger, age 63, at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 in the Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church. The Reverend Monsignor Louis Melancon will celebrate the Mass. Musical selections will be performed by Melody Thibodeaux and Richard Sellers. Gift bearers will be Cynthias sisters, Sylvia McCardell Controy and Sharon McCardell Fontenot.
Cynthia, who was a native of Opelousas and a resident of Lafayette, died on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at a Lafayette hospital.
After graduating from USL in 1972, Cindy began her teaching career at the Academy of Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau, Louisiana. During her 40 years of service to ASH, she held a number of positions and mentored thousands of young women during her tenure. Her favorite subject was mathematics. She was also known for her great sense of humor. Mrs. Leger was the Dean of Students of the Prep schools.
Cindy was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Known as CeeCee to her grandkids, Cindy enjoyed anything that involved her 3 sons and their families. She always loved traveling with her family, students and friends. Cindy will forever be remembered for her beautiful smile, wisdom and unwavering faith.
Survivors include her sons, Benjamin David Leger and wife Chassity of Grand Coteau, LA, Bryan Michael Leger and wife Ashley of Lafayette, LA, and Adam Ross Leger and wife Ashley of Fort Worth, TX mother Doris Bercier McCardell of Opelousas brothers, Frank Chip McCardell and Tommy McCardell and wife Donna, all of Lafayette, LA sisters, Sylvia McCardell Controy of Lafayette, LA and Sharon McCardell Fontenot and husband Carl of Opelousas, LA grandchildren, Sloan Leger, Asa Leger, Kain Ruiz, Abigail Leger and Hilary Leger former husband, Glynn Leger.
She is preceded in death by her father, Frank K. McCardell.
Visitation will be held in the LaFondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas beginning Monday, February 17, 2014 from 4:00 9:00 p.m. and will reopen on Tuesday at 8:00 a.m. until service time. A rosary will be held on Monday at 6:30 p.m.
