Concetta “Tina" Mattera Vallee, age 82, passed away Saturday August 27, 2022, at Opelousas General Health System.
She was born in Ischia, Italy on February 12, 1940, to Gennaro and Pompea Mattera. She was the youngest of six siblings, her closest sibling Fillipo described her as beautiful, vivacious, and spirited. He remembers that as a girl she always looked beautiful and loved to dress up and put on makeup. Like everyone else at the time, she suffered from the fact that Italy was in crisis because of the war, and she had a dream to have a better life in the United States. In search of that dream, she married Robert A. Vallee in Ischia, Italy in 1959. She moved to Rhode Island and there she had three children, one daughter, Patricia, who died at birth, and two sons, Robert and John. In 1970, she moved to Florida with her family to take care of her Zio Antonio and his wife. In Miami, she began working for the Archdiocese of Miami, where she held a series of jobs including, sacristan and cook, until her retirement. She enjoyed the sun, the beach, shopping, and walking. Throughout her life, she traveled back to Italy to visit her family. While there, all of her relatives vied to have her stay with them. In 2016, due to poor health, she moved to Louisiana to be closer to her son and grandchildren. Eventually she moved into Our Lady of Prompt Succor nursing home where she flourished. Her fiery spirit made her stand out and she impacted many lives.
The family would like to express our thanks to the wonderful help and care given to her at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home, where she spent the last years of her life.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Gennaro and Pompea, her siblings, Maria, Anna, Nunzia and Salvatore, and siblings in law, Vincenzo, Francesco and Vincenzo.
She is survived by her sons, John and Robert; her daughter-in-law, Monique; her grandchildren, Adrianna and Jason; her sister-in-law, Luisa Mattera; her brother, Flippo and his wife, Amalia; and her nieces and nephews, Linda, Angela, Giuseppe, Giovanni, Maria, Flippo, Rino, Pompea, Peppe, Gennaro, Pompea, Gennaro, Pina, Pompea, Teresa, Gennaro, and Marianna.
