Clarence Holmes

Opelousas Funeral services for Clarence Buford Holmes will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2013 in the Church of Christ at 2614 S. Union St, Opelousas, LA. The family will accept guests beginning at 2:00 p.m. until service time. At Mr. Holmes request, he will be cremated following his services and his remains scattered at sea.

Mr. Holmes died on Saturday, August 17, 2013 at 6:30 a.m. at the Opelousas General Health System.

Clarence served his country in the United States Navy. He was a graduate of the Preston Road School of Preaching in Dallas, TX. He began his ministerial career at the Church of Christ in Montpelier, Vermont. He served Gods calling at Oakhill Church of Christ in Austin, TX and at the North Virginia St. Church of in Reno, NV where he also held a supervisory role as volunteer Senior Chaplain with all the local law enforcement agencies. He also ministered at the Church of Christ in Greensburg, PA. His most recent appointment was to the Church of Christ in Opelousas, LA. His life was dedicated to serving the Lord, spreading his word, and helping others. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and those who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his son, Michael E. Holmes of West Rutland, VT daughter, Michelle Holmes of Graniteville, VT grandchildren, Amber Marie Willey of Granbury, TX, Cory Holmes and Seth Holmes, both of Titusville, FL, Mariah Holmes and Desiree Holmes, both of Essex Junction, VT.

He was very fond of P.K. Preachers Kid, his beloved Boston Terrier.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Oscar Holmes and Helen Johnson Holmes.
