Opelousas-A Mass of Christian Burial for Claire Veillon Landry will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, July 30, 2021, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas.  Msgr. Keith DeRouen and Fr. Paul Bienvenu will concelebrate the Mass.  Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the St. Landry Cemetery in Opelousas, LA.

Claire Veillon Landry passed away on July 24, 2021, at the age 87.  She was a native and resident of Opelousas, LA.  Claire was the daughter of Edovic and Altha Mornhinveg Veillon.

She is survived by her children, Vicki Whittington (Gary), Julie Fontenot (Mike), Allen Landry and Altha LeBlanc.  Claire is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Brenda Fontenot Landry; and grandchildren, Amanda, Adam, Brett, Carie, Ryan, Miranda, Shawn, Allie, Ashley, Darren, Bradley, Jen, Lyle, Dawn, Hanna, DJ, Brian, Lance, Alysha, Dustin, and Brennan; great-grandchildren are Kori, Brynne, Chase, Cooper, Myka, Rowan, Jackson, Saylor, Layla, Bronson, Rhylen, Nylah, Hayden, Jace and Aubree.  Claire is also survived by her sister, Catherine L. Veillon.

She was predeceased by her siblings, Edward, Earl, Joel, Charles, Irma Savoy, Juanita St. Amand and Josephine McLean; and her son, Bruce Landry.

Claire was a faithful servant involved in many ministries at her church.  She was an example of The Good Samaritan always willing to help others in need.  She enjoyed cooking and gardening.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to her caregivers: Phyllis, Kay, Mary Katherine, and to her daughter, Julie, for the special care and comfort they provided to our mother.  We would like to acknowledge and extend our gratitude to Bobby and Sue Lanclos, who we consider extended family, for their kindness and dedication to the care of our mother.

Visitation will be held in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at LaFond Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas on Thursday, July 29, 2021, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.  A Rosary will be prayed on Thursday evening at 6:00 PM in the funeral home led by Deacon Jerome Collins.  Visitation will resume on Friday, July 30, 2021, at 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or your charity of choice.
