Christine Burleigh

Opelousas- Memorial services for Christine Burleigh will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2020, in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel in the Lafond Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas, LA. Deacon Dwayne Joubert will officiate the services.  Readings for the service will be done by Lexie Care, Patsy Beard, and Braxton Care.  The Eulogy will be shared by Liz Regan. Gary Burleigh will provide the musical selections for the service.

Ms. Burleigh, age 65, who was a native and resident of Opelousas, died at her residence on March 27, 2020.

With a heart of gold and a gypsy soul, Christine was a loving mother and grandmother. Never meeting a stranger, she was the true definition of someone that would give the shirt off her back. From those in need to the stray cat found on the side of the road, she was always quick to put everyone else's needs before her own.

Christine was also what you would call a jack of all trades. From being an insurance adjuster, driving for the railroad, becoming a member of the Morrow's Exxon family in Krotz Springs, and even a butcher at Piggly Wiggly. But through all of her life's adventures, the highlights of Christine's life were her grandchildren. When mom or dad said no, you could believe that maw-maw Tine was going to say yes. As much as she loved her grand babies, each of them loved her just as much.

Christine suffered for many years with multiple health issues and her family is going to find comfort knowing that she is now at peace and pain free. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Christine is survived by her son, Bradford Care and his wife Sally of Opelousas; her step-sons, Scott Deville of Texas and Jason Deville of Opelousas as well as her daughter-in-law, Patsy Beard; brother Gary Burleigh of New Caney, TX; sister, Liz Regan of Egan, LA; grandchildren, Lexie and Braxton Care, Shelby and Danny "lil d" Ortego, Cassie Miller, Logan, Emily and Jaci Deville, Jacob and Emma Deville, as well as 4 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her son, Danny Ortego; parents, Louis Phillip Burleigh and Irene Hunt Burleigh; maternal grandparents, Murry Louis Hunt and Louise McMillan Hunt; paternal grandparents, Albert Burleigh and Rose Cashere Burleigh; brother, Murry Ray Burleigh and her sister, Winona Burleigh Grant.

The family gathering will be held for the public, friends and family at 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2020, in the Lafond Ardoin Funeral Home. The Rosary Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. followed by the Eulogy.
