Chizal Fontenot

OPELOUSAS Funeral services for Chizal Louise Smith Fontenot, age 56, will be held on Monday, February 13, 2012 at 1:30 pm with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Landry Catholic Church. Interment will follow in St. Landry Catholic Cemetery. Fr. James Brady will celebrate the Mass.

Chiz was a resident of Sunset, Louisiana. After a brave 17month battle with brain cancer, she passed away in her home on Friday, February 10, 2012, surrounded by her loving family. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. The world has lost a very special, wonderful lady.

Chiz was a senior partner in the CPA firm of John S. Dowling Co and was the first female partner in the firm. She graduated from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1977 and earned her CPA certification shortly thereafter. She was a graduate of Sunset High School in 1973. She was a member of the American Business Womens Association and on multiple years earned the chapters award as Woman of the Year. She was also an esteemed member of Sterling Whos Who.

She is survived by her husband, Leroy J Fontenot and daughter, Sarah Emili of Sunset sister, Joy Smith Barber and husband Rick of Opelousas brother, Brad Smith and wife Rebecca Quebedeaux Smith of Sunset step children Troy Fontenot and wife Alidia Prudhomme Fontenot of Lafayette, Shay Fontenot and wife Jennifer Dupre Fontenot, of Opelousas, and Leslie Fontenot Cleveland and husband Donald of Lafayette Grandchildren Leighton and Lilli Grace Fontenot, Lexi Fontenot, and Amelia and Charles David Cleveland step grandchildren Lauren and Bailee Wyble and niece and nephews Bradford, Cory, Bethany, Reese Fuzzle, and David Smith of Sunset.

Chiz was preceded in death by her parents, Minnie Lee Mills Smith and Bradford Likens Smith grandparents Robert Lee and Eve Lavergne Mills and Albert Majors Smith and Chizal Marie Smith.

Pallbearers for the service will be Bradford Smith, Cory Smith, Shay Fontenot, Troy Fontenot, Gerald Janise and Donald Cleveland. Honorary Pallbearers will be Reese Fuzzle Smith and David Smith. Gift Bearers will be Jo Ann Richard and Bethany Smith.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 12, 2012 from 1 pm to 9 pm in Lafond Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas. A rosary will be said on Sunday at 7 pm. On Monday, visitation will continue from 8 am until the time of service.

The family would like to give special thanks to Sunset Medical Clinic, Dr. Randy Daigle and Nurse Betty. Special thanks to Amy Courvelle and her staff at St. Landry Home Health, and also to her Comfort Care nurse, Lou.
