A Memorial Mass for Mr. Charles Gerald Roy, Sr. will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2021, at 10:00 AM at St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas, LA.
Charles Gerald Roy, “Gee”, “Daddy”, “Poppa”, age 89, passed away peacefully at his home on December 6, 2020.
He was born on March 15, 1931, in Opelousas, to Martin Arvin Roy, Sr. and Marie Holman Roy.
Gerald, who was a Marine Veteran, was an avid gardener, and loved sharing his fruits and vegetables with friends and family. He loved playing golf, fishing and hunting with his children and grandchildren. He loved teaching his children and grandchildren the love of gardening, and the sports he enjoyed.
Poppa loved all of his grandsons and enjoyed spending time with them. He also fell in love with his precious great grandchildren and loved spending time with them and sharing stories with them.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents Martin and Marie Roy, his grandparents Arthur and Eva Wyble Roy and Sylvester and Eloise Tujague Holman.
Gerald is survived by his wife of 66 years, Norma Dupre Roy, his children, Julie Roy, Cheryl Deshotels (Stephen), and Charles Gerald “Jerry” Roy, Jr. (Hope). He is also survived by his nine grandsons, four great granddaughters, eight great grandsons and his brother Martin Roy, Jr., and sister Iris Roy Diesi. He is also survived by a close cousin, Charlie McKinney and his daughter Lynn.
