Opelousas A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Charles Benny Sebastien at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 19, 2014, in the Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church. The Very Reverend Monsignor Keith DeRouen will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal will be held at Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Sebastien, age 66, died on Sunday, November 16, 2014, at Opelousas General Health System.
Benny was the owner of The Country Corner grocery store for over ten years. He served his country proudly in the National Guard for six years. He was an accomplished and well known craftsman and carpenter. His specialty was making cabinets and furniture. He enjoyed dancing, especially to French and Zydeco music. He loved telling jokes, spending time with his family and friends and spoiling his dog, Shorty. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Chustz Sebastien, of Port Barre, LA his daughter, Shelly Sebastien Richard and husband, Brian Richard, of Opelousas, LA his stepdaughters, Kristina Gauthier and husband, Bobby Gauthier, Jr., of Port Barre, LA and Katie Diaville and fianc, Mitchell Brown, of Grand Prairie, LA. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Luke Sebastien Kaiser, Dylan Ryan Richard and Kennedi Blair Richard and his special little friend, Anna Katherine Miller.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vuris B.O. and Winnie Mae Hargroder Sebastien and his brother, Paul Tiny Sebastien.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Gauthier, Jr., Mitchell Brown, Luke Sebastien Kaiser, Billy Sebastien, David Sebastien and Dylan Ryan Richard. Honorary pallbearers will be Brian Richard and Aubrey Orgeron.
The family would like to thank the staff at Opelousas General Health System, Dr. Ty Hargroder, M.D. and his office staff, Dr. Michael Felton, M.D., Dr. James Cole, M.D. and the staff at Louisiana Hospice Palliative Care.
Visitation will be held at the LaFondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Tuesday, November 18, 2014, from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and will reopen on Wednesday at 8:00 a.m. until time of service. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 by Deacon Bill Pollingue.
