1955 – 2023
Charles Rexer Fair, lovingly known as Rex, died peacefully on October 16, 2023, at his residence. Born at Tachikawa, Japan, AFB, Rex traveled extensively, residing on 4 continents and in 7 states.
Rex had an indomitable spirit and a can-do attitude. He proudly served in the navy for four years as a machinist mate during the Vietnam era. Afterward, he graduated from LSU.
Rex had a deep love for nature and enjoyed hunting, camping, kayaking, canoeing, and being an avid outdoorsman. A master craftsman, he built his own log cabin from the trees on his property. One of Charles's greatest joys was playing the guitar and wandering by motorcycle across country absorbing local history.
Rex is preceded in death by his parents, Lance B. Fair and Rita L. Rexer, his brother-in-law, Donald D. Tapee, his dear beloved friends Frankie Diesi, Dale Guidry and George Bourgeois, and numerous beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Rex is survived by his sisters, Sarah Ellen Fair Tapee and Mary-Grace Rusnak (Tom), his niece and nephews, Kevin Neil Tapee (Kirsten), Katrina Merrie Rusnak, Christopher John Rusnak (Hilary), his great-nephew Ryan Thomas Tapee, along with numerous beloved family members.
We will celebrate the life of Charles “Rex” Fair on Sunday, October 22, 2023. Visitation services will be held from 1:00p.m. to 2:30p.m. in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home, 2845 S Union St in Opelousas, LA 70570 on October 22, 2023. The visitation will take place from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM. Dress casual, like Rex.
He will be cherished for his sense of humor and zest for life.
