Lawtell - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Charles Vernon Duplechain at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 12, 2021, at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Lawtell. Rev. Fr. Ted Broussard and Rev. Fr. Brian Taylor will concelebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal and burial will follow in the St. Bridget Church Cemetery in Lawtell.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 12, 2021, from 9:00 a.m. 2:00 p.m. in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel in the Lafond Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas. A Rosary will be prayed at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home and led by Father Ted Broussard.
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Mr. Charles Vernon Duplechain, age 71, on Tuesday, March 9, 2021, at his residence surrounded by his family.
Charles was a veteran of the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He owned and operated St. Landry Security for 39 years. He was appointed by Governor Foster to sit on the Board of Private Security and served under every governor until his retirement in 2019. He previously worked as a police officer and detective with the Opelousas Police Department. Charles loved being outdoors, fishing, and watching Saints football. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed cooking Sunday dinners for them. Charles will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Caroline Bellard Duplechain of Church Point; his mother, Rose Fruge Duplechain of Lawtell; his sons, Chad Duplechain and wife, Kelly of Youngsville; Shawn Duplechain and wife, Cindy of Lawtell; Jeremy Duplechain and wife, Kelly of Opelousas; and Lance Duplechain and wife, Shawn Renee of Lawtell; his daughter, Amanda Morse and husband, Gaven of Lawtell; his sisters, Judy Daigle and husband, Jules of Lawtell; Linda Vallot and husband, Caje of Lawtell; and Janice Berard and husband, David of Lawtell. He is also survived by twenty-four grandchildren, Brent Duplechain and wife, Elizabeth, Christian Duplechain and wife, Erin, Michael Duplechain, Seth Duplechain, Brice Benoit, Madison Benoit, Shelby Landry and husband, Dominick, Devin Duplechain and fiancé, Emily Seilhan, Noah Duplechain, Sam Duplechain, Maria Duplechain, Lydia Duplechain, Gemma Duplechain, Evie Duplechain, Anna-Kate Duplechain, Tyler Bergeron, Justin Hornsby, Landon Duplechain, Aubrey Duplechain, Amelia Morse, Adalynn Morse, Gabriel Morse, Gannon Morse and Griffin Morse; and three great-grandchildren, Sawyer Duplechain, Jaxon Benoit and soon to arrive, Levi Landry and "Baby" Duplechain; and a host of nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon Duplechin; his grandparents, Villiar Duplechin and Alida Newman Duplechin; and Cleveland Fruge and Mary Lou Lejeune Fruge.
Pallbearers will be Christian Duplechain, Devin Duplechain, Michael Duplechain, Seth Duplechain, Noah Duplechain, Sam Duplechain, Landon Duplechain and Brice Benoit. Honorary pallbearers will be Tyler Bergeron and Justin Hornsby.
