Charlene Whaley

Opelousas A Mass of Christian Burial will held for Charlene Ruffino Whaley, age 68, on Friday, October 16, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Landry Catholic Church followed by interment in Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery in Opelousas, La. Monsignor Louis Melancon will officiate the services.

Charlene, who was a native and resident of Opelousas, died at Lafayette General Medical Center on Wednesday, October 14, 2009.

Charlene was employed by Opelousas Catholic School for almost 30 years. She was a graduate of AIC and all of her children were graduates of Opelousas Catholic School.

She is survived by her son, Roy K. Whaley, Jr. and wife, Tonia, of Carencro, La.; her daughters, Dawn Roberie and Margaret King both of Opelousas, La. and Anita Dupre and husband, Jeff, of Sunset, La. She is also survived by her brother, Charles H. Ruffino, Jr. and wife, Ann, of Beggs, La.; her sister, Connie Lalonde of Opelousas, La. and her 15 grandchildren, Brent, Jonathan, Taylor, Shelbi, Eric, Trevor, Ryan, Aley, Mitchell, Samantha, Sarah, Adam, Savannah, Roy, III and Sabrina.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Henry Ruffino, Jr. and Ethel Burleigh Ruffino; her husband, Roy K. Whaley, Sr. and her sisters, Beverly Crimm and Joan Helmey.

Visiting hours will be observed in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Thursday, October 15, 2009 from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and will re-open at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, October 16, 2009 until service time. Deacon Sammy Diesi will conduct the rosary at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 15, 2009.
