Carol Joseph Ortego

Opelousas – Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 24, 2019 for Carol Joseph Ortego at St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas. The Reverend Monsignor Russell Harrington will officiate the Mass. Rite of Committal will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park.

Carol Joseph Ortego, age 91 and a resident of Opelousas, passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home.

Carol was a native of Evangeline Parish and a resident of Opelousas for many years. After honorably serving three years in the United States Air Force, he worked for Roy Motors for more than 40 years before retiring. He was a volunteer fireman and an usher at St. Landry Catholic Church for many years. Carol loved fishing and spending time with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his sons, Michael Ortego of Opelousas and Carol Ortego, Jr. of Gulfport, MS; brothers, Percy Ortego and his wife, Alice of Carencro, Harold Ortego and his wife, Lela of Opelousas and Hilliard Ortego and his wife, Phyllis of Eunice; sisters, Ruby Ortego of Ville Platte, Shirley Ann Collier of Ville Platte and Janell Lafleur and her husband, Vernal; grandchildren, Yvette Marie Ortego of Gulfport, MS, Chelsea Renee Ortego of New Orleans, Elizabeth “Liddy” Ortego of Byhalia, MS and Elaina “Lainey” Ortego of Memphis, TN; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Elaine Ortego; parents, Golbert and Eula Fontenot Ortego; infant daughter; brothers, Harris Ortego and Lindsey Ortego.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 23, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. in the Skip Montet Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday evening by Deacon Dwayne Joubert. Visitation will continue on Monday, June 24, 2019 from 8:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.
