Opelousas

Caroline Ganson Sonnier, born on August 4, 1947, in Lecompte, Louisiana, passed away on March 7, 2025, at her residence in Opelousas, Louisiana. She will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends.

A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, from 10:00am until 2:30pm. A Graveside Service will follow at 3:00pm at Bertrand Cemetery.

Throughout her life, Caroline found immense joy in family gatherings, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Caroline enjoyed connecting with the world around her, particularly through her love for keeping up with daily events by watching the news. Her presence will be sorely missed, but her spirit will forever remain alive in the hearts of all who knew her.

Caroline is survived by her daughters, Sheila Babineaux and her husband, Jerry, Jackie Lafleur and her significant other, Jarvis Gonzales, and Angela Pitre; her brother, Leonard Ganson and his wife, Joan. She is also survived by her grandchildren, each of whom brought her boundless happiness: Elizabeth Ashley Fontenot, Joshua Romero (Mindy), Deborah Race (Jonathan), Jacob Lafleur (Paige), Megan Grimmett, and Jarryd Pitre (Samantha). Caroline also took great delight in her great-grandchildren—Harli Shea Hendrickson, Gavin Thibodeaux, Emma Thibodeaux, Wyatt Adams, Corbin Sylvester, Aubrey Race, Tucker Race, Cylas Grimmett, Lucas Race, Piper Romero and Gretchen Pitre—along with the anticipated arrival of another precious addition to the family; and her beloved dachshund, Gilley, whom she loved so much.

Caroline was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Ganson and Mamie Leger Ganson, as well as her dearly departed husband, Gilbert Sonnier; her brothers, Jack Ganson, Oscar Ganson, and L.E. Ganson; her sister, Clara Moore; and her son-in-law, Peter Lafleur.

Pallbearers will be Jacob Lafleur, Joshua Romero, Jarryd Pitre, Jarvis Gonzales, Gavin Thibodeaux and Jonathan Race.

As we reflect on the cherished memories of Caroline G. Sonnier, let us celebrate a life filled with love, devotion, and a profound commitment to family. Her legacy will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to share in her journey.
