Prairie Ronde A Mass of Christian Burial for Buren J. Dupre will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2013, at 1:00 pm in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Prairie Ronde. Rite of Committal will take place at Sacred Heart Mausoleum. Rev. Ted Broussard will celebrate the mass along with Rev. James Lipari and Rev. Conley Bertrand, concelebrating.
Mr. Dupre, age 88, a resident of Prairie Ronde, died on Monday November 4, 2013, at Prompt Succor Nursing Home.
He was an accomplished man having served on the Board of Directors for Prairie Ronde Water System since its beginning, also a member of the American Legion after serving in the United States Navy during WWII. He jokingly referred to himself as the Mayor of Prairie Ronde. He was a long time member of the Sacred Heart Chapel and was devoted to praying the daily Rosary with his wife. He was very devoted to his family and especially loved hearing stories from his grandchildren. He also adored his great grandchildren. He endeared himself to many people by giving them special nicknames. Although his was blind, he continued to enjoy gardening and showing rent houses to prospective renters. He was also retired from the St. Landry Parish Sheriffs Office.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Amy Brown Dupre of Prairie Ronde, daughters, Debra Quigley and husband Bill of New Orleans and Gwen Miller and husband Mark of Opelousas, 6 grandchildren, Patrick Quigley, Joey Quigley, Aaron Miller and wife Rene, Amy Grace Miller, Andree Miller and Andrew Miller and wife Kylie, 4 great grandchildren Matthew Miller, Lucas Miller, Emily Miller and Aubrey Miller.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Darbes Dupre and Mamie Briley Dupre.
The family has requested visitation be held in the LafondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Tuesday, November 4, 2013, from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm and on Wednesday from 8:00 am until time of services. A rosary will be prayed on Tuesday at 6:00 pm.
