Brittany Lavergne Schroeder

Opelousas – A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 26, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Opelousas, La.  Father Gregory Simien will celebrate the Mass.  The Rite of Committal will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas.

Brittany Nicole Lavergne Schroeder, age 43, passed away on Monday, May 22, 2023. 

Brittany had a fulfilling career teaching, mentoring and guiding her many students. She began her calling at SLATS from 2009-2010, where she taught AR and GED classes to at-risk students. She continued on by teaching English and Social Studies at MACA from 2010 until present.

Brittany will always be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. Her legacy will continue to inspire all who knew her. May her soul rest in peace.

Brittany leaves behind her loving husband, Mark Schroeder; her mother, Debra Anslem Lavergne; her children, David Lavergne Schroeder and Abigail Rae Schroeder; her sister, Christina Coleman and husband, Brad; and her nephew, Tanner Coleman; and her extended family, dear friends, as well as, her numerous students, whom she loved dearly.

She is preceded in death by her father, Gene Lavergne; her paternal grandparents, Magnus and Merzie Lee Lavergne and her maternal grandparents, Merrick and Anita Tate Anslem. 

Those honored to be pallbearers are Mark Schroeder, David Lavergne Schroeder, Brad Coleman, Jacques Joubert, Zachary Joubert, and Ted Richard.  The honorary pallbearer will be Tanner Coleman.

A visitation will be held in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas on Thursday, May 25, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.  A Rosary will be recited Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. by Cecille Dupre.  The funeral home will re-open on Friday, May 26, 2023, from 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
