A loving mother and grandmother, Betty Jane Thomasson Westerhaus passed away on Wednesday, June 29, 2011, in Baton Rouge, La. She was 81. Jane was a lifelong resident of Melville, La. and a retired special education teacher who taught in the St. Landry Parish school system for 30 years. She was a member of the Melville United Methodist Church and the Melville Womans Club.
Jane is survived by her son, Mark Westerhaus and his wife, Sheree Caire Westerhaus, of Baton Rouge her daughter, Jennifer Westerhaus Marks and husband, David Marks, of Frisco, Texas her grandchildren, Kaitlyn Westerhaus, Grant Westerhaus, and Lane Westerhaus of Baton Rouge, Lauren Marks and Matthew Marks of Frisco, Texas her brother, William Thomasson and wife, Marlys Wyble Thomasson, of Melville her sister, Peggy Thomasson Lafleur of Baton Rouge, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years Wesley Westerhaus her parents, Andrew and Katie Thomasson her sisters, Ruth Thomasson Hebert and Sophie Thomasson Ziegler her brothers, Joseph Thomasson, Andrew Duck Thomasson, and Ludlow Thomasson.
Visitation will be at the LafondArdoin Funeral Home in Melville, La. on Friday, July 1, 2011, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Visitation will resume at the funeral home on Saturday, July 2, 2011, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. with funeral services at the Melville United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in the Melville Methodist Cemetery following the funeral service. The Reverend Kenneth Carroll of Broadmoor United Methodist Church and Reverend Pamela Roy of Melville United Methodist Church will conduct the service.
