Washington - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Betty Jane Fitzgerald Soileau at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 19, 2015, in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Washington, LA. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. in the church; a rosary will be prayed at 11:00 a.m. Rite of Committal will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington, LA. Reverend Jared Suire will celebrate the Mass.
Mrs. Soileau, age 82, formerly of Melville, LA and resident of Baton Rouge, LA, died peacefully on Wednesday, December 16, 2015, at her residence.
Betty loved spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed reading, solving cross-word puzzles, working in her garden, crocheting and sewing. She was a longtime member of the Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites in Baton Rouge, LA. Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her sons, Ken Soileau of Denham Springs, LA; Bruce (Bonnie) Soileau of Plano, TX; Terry (Debbie) Soileau of Houston, TX; her daughters Debbie Soileau of Baton Rouge, LA; Sherry (Joe) Williams of Baton Rouge; her brothers, E.J. Fitzgerald of Krotz Springs, LA; Donald (Helen) Fitzgerald of Walla Walla, WA; Gerald (Linda) Fitzgerald of Krotz Springs, LA; Charles (Genny) Fitzgerald of Kountze, TX; her sisters, Joyce Marks of Lebeau, LA; Mary Ann (Tony) Morrow of Opelousas, LA; Belva Rose Plaisance of Krotz Springs, LA; Maxine Hagan of Sunset, LA and Gayle Morrow of Krotz Springs, LA. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Eric (Angela) Soileau, of Watson, LA; Layla Soileau of Atlanta, GA; Jessica (Jason) Brownell of San Antonio, TX; Jennifer Williams of Baton Rouge, LA; Abrie (Nick) Sellers of Thomasville, GA; Kami Soileau of West Memphis AR; Michael Williams of Baton Rouge, LA and four great-grandchildren, Bryson and Bennett Brownell of San Antonio, TX and Tatum and Declan Soileau of Watson, LA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Ervin Soileau; her son, Joseph Soileau; her parents, Etienne and Elana Hollier Fitzgerald; her brother, Frederick Fitzgerald and her daughter-in-law, Faye Soileau.
