Betty Richard

Lawtell - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Betty Ann Thibodeaux Richard at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 23, 2017, at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Lawtell. Reverend Father Austin Leger will Celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal will follow at the church cemetery. Musical selections will be performed by Mona Prejean.

Mrs. Richard, age 76, of Lewisburg, LA, passed away on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at Lafayette General Medical Center.

Betty was a parishioner of St. Bridget Catholic Church in Lawtell. She loved sewing, cooking and especially enjoyed spending time with her family. Betty held several jobs throughout her life. She was a home start teacher for many years and retired after working for 17 years as the housekeeper for St. Landry Homestead Federal Savings Bank. Betty will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, James Hubert Richard, Sr. of Lewisburg; her sons, Zachary J. Richard and wife, Annette, of Opelousas; James H Richard, Jr. and wife, Dianne, of Lewisburg; her daughters, Rebecca "Becky" Vidrine of Opelousas and Dana R. Provost and husband, Matthew of Opelousas. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Lance Richard, Trey Vidine, Brad Richard, Brody Richard, Kristina Vidrine, Dustin Richard, Nicholas Vidrine, Alex Provost and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawerance Joseph Thibodeaux and Anne Lavergne Thibodeaux and her sister and her brother-in-law, Athry Mae Richard and Apton Richard.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the entire staff at Lafayette General Medical Center. They would like to extend a special thank you to the 7th Floor ICU staff, the 6th floor staff and the 9th floor - LTAC unit staff for the care and compassion that Betty received.

Visitation will be held at the LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Thursday, June 22, 2017, from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. The funeral home will reopen on Friday, June 23, 2017 from 7:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2017.

Pallbearers will be Lance Richard, Trey Vidrine, Brad Richard, Brody Richard, Dustin Richard and Nicholas Vidrine. Honorary pallbearers will be Alex Provost and Kristina Vidrine.
