Opelousas – Betty Nezat Pitre, a loving woman cherished her family above all has passed away on January 6, 2024, at The Carpenter House in Lafayette, LA, at the age of 92. Born on January 5, 1932, in Opelousas, Louisiana, Betty leaves behind a legacy of warmth, compassion, and dedication to her loved ones.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Betty Nezat Pitre will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, in Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Opelousas, LA. Rev. Fr. Jude Thierry will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas, LA. The Readers for the Mass will be Kimberly Thibodeaux and Kelli Richard, the gift bearers will be Jack Ryan Thibodeaux and Ainsley Thibodeaux. Soloist, Cindy LaFleur and organist, Andrea Pitre will provide the musical selections.
Visitation will be held in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. A Rosary will be recited at 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home led by Judi Lucito followed by a Eulogy presentation by Ryan Thibodeaux.
Throughout her life, Betty worked as a medical billing and medical records clerk for both the local hospital and several doctors' offices. Her commitment to her profession was commendable, and she made lasting connections with patients and colleagues alike. Betty's attention to detail and strong work ethic earned her the respect and admiration of all who had the pleasure of working with her.
While Betty found fulfillment in her career, it was her family that brought true joy to her life. She cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating everlasting memories that will be treasured by each generation. Whether it was gathering around the dinner table for hearty meals or delighting in special occasions and holidays together, Betty's love for her family knew no bounds.
Betty's deep faith played an integral role in her life as well. She found comfort attending the Catholic Church regularly. Her devotion to God guided her actions and shaped her values of kindness, forgiveness, and unconditional love.
Betty Nezat Pitre was a remarkable woman whose presence brightened the lives of all those fortunate enough to know her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family. She is survived by her son, Gordon Brent Pitre and wife, Andrea of Youngsville; her daughter, Darlene Pitre Richard and husband, Keith of Baton Rouge; brother, Johnnie Nezat of Metairie; and sister, Laura Nezat Mouton and husband, Gerald of Hot Springs, Arkansas; She was blessed with six grandchildren: Kimberly Thibodeaux and husband, Ryan; Kelli Richard, Allison Chapman and husband, Craig; Sara Vidrine, Ashton Souther, and Aiden Vidrine; and eight great-grandchildren: Ainsley Thibodeaux, Cole Thibodeaux, Jack Ryan Thibodeaux, Amelia Guillory, Austin Guillory, Gunner Chapman, Fen Chapman, and Ella Cummings.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul Valex Nezat and Laura Carriere Nezat; brothers, Pruitt Nezat, Milburn Nezat, Eugene Nezat, Jospeh Valex Nezat, and Joseph Vinton Nezat; sisters, Verna Horning, Mary Brown Davila, and Joyce Gonzales.
Pallbearers will be Brent Pitre, Ryan Thibodeaux, Richard Lucito, Ashton Souther, Stanley Darbonne, and Allison Chapman.
The world has truly lost a compassionate soul, but Betty's spirit will continue to inspire and guide us all. May she rest in eternal peace.
