Bertha Thibodeaux Guidry

Lawtell – A Mass of Christian Burial for Bertha Thibodeaux Guidry will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, in the St. Bridget Catholic Church in Lawtell, LA.  Rev. Father Gregory Simien will Celebrate the Mass.  Rite of Committal will take place in the St. Bridget Church Cemetery.  

A visitation will be held in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on, Tuesday, July 11, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.  A Rosary will be prayed at 10:00 a.m. by the Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church Rosary Altar Society. 

Bertha Guidry of Opelousas, La. passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 9, 2023, at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home in Opelousas at the age of 90. 

Bertha worked for Dominique’s Stockyard in Opelousas for over 40 years.  She was the Valedictorian of her graduating class at Lawtell High School.  Bertha was very proud of her French heritage.  She enjoyed cooking, especially making boudin, and enjoyed welcoming people into her home.  Bertha’s Catholic faith was very important to her, and she prayed her rosary daily.  She was a parishioner of St. Bridget Catholic Church and was a lector for over 30 years.  She also enjoyed being outdoors and working in her garden. 

Bertha’s legacy will continue to inspire all who knew her.  May her soul rest in peace.

Bertha is survived by her sons, Jody M. Guidry Sr. and wife, Kathryn Guidry and Chris S. Guidry and wife, Ruth Guidry; eight grandchildren, including Amanda L. Guidry and Jody M. Guidry Jr. and numerous great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley James Guidry; her parents, Ben and Emily Thibodeaux; her sister, Anna Jane Miller; her brother, Paul Kenneth Thibodeaux and her stepbrother, Roland (To-be) Thibodeaux.
