Bernadine "Bennie" Hargroder

Opelousas - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Bernadine "Bennie" Ann Aucoin Hargroder at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 24, 2022, at St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas.  Father Neil Pettit will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal and internment will follow in Bellevue Memorial Park.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bernadine "Bennie" Ann Aucoin Hargroder, age 74, on Friday, January 21, 2022.

She was born in Opelousas to the late, Cleo and Thelma Aucoin on March 2, 1947. After graduating from Opelousas High School, she became a bank teller and worked for American Bank for 30 years.

Mrs. Bennie adored her 5 grandchildren. She enjoyed attending their sporting events and was their biggest fan. Playing Pokeno, reading and doing crossword puzzles were some of her favorite passions. However, more than anything, she loved spending time with her family and friends and will be deeply missed by those who knew her.

She is survived by her sons, J.B. Hargroder and wife, Angela, of Centerton Arkansas and Phillip Hargroder and wife, Dana, of Lawtell; her brother, Lonnie Aucoin and wife, Deborah, of Lafayette; her five grandchildren, Caitlin Hargroder, Bryce Hargroder, Joshua Hargroder, Brandon Hargroder and Ava Hargroder; one great-grandchild, Bentley; and a host of nieces, nephews and close friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Berchman Hargroder, Sr.; her parents, Cleo and Thelma Aucoin; her brothers, John Aucoin and Ivan Aucoin; and her sister, Brenda Guillory.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 23, 2022, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas.  A rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. The funeral home will reopen on Monday, January 24, 2022, from 8:00 a.m. until time of service.

Pallbearers will be Joshua Hargroder, Bryce Hargroder, Brandon Hargroder, Nick Aucoin, Peyton Ford and Al Credeur.
