A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM for Austin J. Jagneaux on Thursday, January 4, 2018, at St. Landry Catholic Church. Rite of Committal will take place in the church cemetery. Monsignor Louis Melancon will Celebrate the Mass. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and Thursday, January 4, 2018, from 10:00 AM until 1:30 PM in the Lafond Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas. A Rosary being prayed at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday by Deacon Dwayne Joubert.
Mr. Jagneaux, age 94, passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home.
Austin had a very strong work ethic. He worked as a city bus driver in Opelousas, worked as a farmer and later retired from the Louisiana State Highway Department. He loved being around his family, especially his grandchildren. Austin will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Annie Wise Dupre Jagneaux of Opelousas, LA; his son, Joseph Dale Jagneaux and fiancé, Carolina Castaneda of Lake Charles, LA; his daughters, Marjorie Quebedeaux of Opelousas, LA; Cheryl Bergeron and husband, James of Opelousas, LA; his brother, Alexius Jagneaux, Jr. of Church Point, LA and a special family friend, Sharleen Meyers. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Keith Quebedeaux and wife, Dana; Stephen Quebedeaux and fiancé, Rachel Trichel; Paula Darbonne and husband, Shawn; Samantha Jagneaux; Courtney Jagneaux Oertel and husband, Jim and his great-grandchildren, Kyle Quebedeaux, Jacob Quebedeaux, Seth Darbonne and wife, Lonnie, Austin Darbonne, Henry Oertel, Charles Anthony Quebedeaux II and Ava Michelle Quebedeaux.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alexius Jagneaux, Sr. and Celeman Benoit; his brothers, Curley Jagneaux, Cyril Jagneaux, Lessin Jagneaux and his sisters, Eula Venable, Mary Lou Elder and Rose Vidrine.
The family would like to send a special thanks to Dr. Louis Nix and staff, Angie Going, his long-term caregiver, Louise Lee and the staff of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home.
