Opelousas A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Arthur Bernard Reed, Jr., age 88, on Friday, February 12, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the St. Landry Catholic Church, followed by interment in the St. Landry Catholic Church Cemetery in Opelousas, La. Father Gary Schexnayder will conduct the services.
Mr. Reed, a resident of Opelousas, La., passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at Opelousas General Health System.
Mr. Reed served his country in the United States Marines on the Southern Pacific Front during WWII. He was a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus, past President of the Opelousas Rotary Club and recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and past President of the Chamber of Commerce where he also received the Man of the Year award. He served as the Yambilee Association President and was a past Yambilee King. He also retired as Senior Vice President of St. Landry Bank.
He is survived by two sons, Dennis Reed of Opelousas, La. Brent Reed and wife, Susan, of Covington, La. his daughters, Nell Reed Dye and husband, Roddy Judy Reed Courville and husband, Alan Madelyn Reed Comeaux all of Opelousas, La. his sister, Rita Reed Smith of Opelousas, La and a sister in law, Louise B. Dupont. He is also survived by his 13 grandchildren: Ben Dye, Andy Dye, Alayna Dye, Lauren Dye, Aaron Reed, Sarah Courville, Amanda Courville Meche and husband, Justin Jessica Courville, Kristen Courville, A.J. Courville, Matthew Courville, Christopher Comeaux, Casey Comeaux and 2 greatgrandchildren: Abigail Meche and Alice Meche.
He was preceded in death by his wife and mother of his children, Kathleen Marie Dupont Reed his son, Joseph Reed his parents, Arthur Bernard Reed, Sr. and Alida Arnaud Reed and his stepmother, Marie Cahanin Reed.
Visiting hours will be observed in the LafondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Thursday, February 11, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and will reopen on Friday at 8:00 a.m. A rosary will be recited on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
The pallbearers will be his grandsons.
